What You Should Consider Becoming A Graphics Designer

Graphic Design

“The art of skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.”  Logos, pictographs, packaging, signage are all forms of graphic design.  Images, texts, symbols are all combined by graphic designers to produce the visual form of these ideas and messages.  One example of a graphic design would be the Blue H sign you see on the highways whenever there is a hospital nearby.

New Tendencies

Graphic Design is ever changing and for the good!  Companies are looking to “refresh” their logos into sleek, updated versions so that they stand out more.  This could be bigger, brighter logos that only have words or the logos could include pictures as well, such as a logo for Walt Disney not only says Walt Disney, it has a picture of a castle with a half circle around it.  Flat designs are being used more in backgrounds and illustrations.  Duotones has come alive in digital printing.  Taking a logo and half printing on top of something else where color is combined creates a perfect image that is two toned.  Hot pink over black is a definite pop of color that attracts attention.  Animated art GIF”s add interest to ads, are modern and appealing and used by millions of people of Facebook.

Famous Graphic Designers

Graphic Design use can be found going all the way back to 136 B.C. when the Egyptians used picture symbols on the Rosetta Stone.  1737 brought Benjamin Franklin utilizing art on his newspaper The Pennsylvania Gazette and was the first to use logos and teach that using details in marketing products and services was extremely important.  An American book designer named William Addison Dwiggins published his book in 1927 and it showcased the words “Graphic Design” for the first time as a title.  Eli Lissitzky throughout the twentieth century brought us technics in production and how to use devices for style.
